GOODING:SIX SALESMEN CONVICTED OF £60M SHARE SCAM

DURSLEY, GLOUCESTERSHIRE; LEEDS; BRENTWOOD, ROMFORD, DUNMOW, ESSEX; CARDIFF; ASHFORD, KENT; CROYDON,. SOUTH LONDON Six salesmen were convicted of involvement a £60m share scam in Spain which duped hundreds of British investors into buying worthless shares, a court heard. Daniel Gooding, 39, and five employees including sister Emma Farmer, 40, tricked clients into buying worthless shares over the telephone. Co-defendants Jon Emery, 36, Ian Hughes, 33, Philip Morris, 38, and Shaun Rumsey, 33, were employed to use hard selling techniques and persuade customers to invest. The operation, based in Madrid, was carried out by 'sales entities', companies set up for limited periods of time acting as vehicles to sell high volumes of shares.

BOYE: TRIAL FOR MAN ACCUSED OF SPRINGING PATIENT FROM JAIL

ENFIELD A mental health worker and the convicted murderer he helped spring from a hospital are to stand trial next month. Lerone Boye, 27, was locked up for at least 28 years for stabbing 17-year-old Kelvin Chibueze to death following a birthday party in 2011. Boye was being held at the John Howard Centre in Kenworthy Road, Homerton when he was allowed to walk out of lawful custody by Dean Ablakwa, 29, on October 16 last year, it is alleged.

HAWKING: COMMUNITY SERVICE FOR CYCLIST WHO MOWED DOWN PEDESTRIAN

HACKNEY A drunken cyclist who hit a pedestrian while jumping a red light has been ordered to do 150 hours community service Joseph Hawkins, 25, had been drinking cans of Strongbow in the early afternoon when he ran over Ah Dee Wang on Mare Street, Hackney. Mr Wang was knocked unconscious and suffered back pain and concussion. Hawkins looked after his victim after the incident on September 5 while waiting for police to arrive.

GRAVES: SOCIAL WORKER WHO STOLE FOR CARAVAN HOLIDAY IS STRUCK OFF

WELWYN A social worker who plundered over £30,000 from vulnerable pensioners in her care to treat herself to presents including a caravan holiday has been kicked out of the profession. Lorraine Graves helped herself to cash intended for seven elderly people who were unable to manage their own money in the Welwyn and Hatfield Old People and Physical Disabilities Department at Hertfordshire County Council. She fabricated payment requests for goods and services that the elderly clients knew nothing about and pocketed £31,043.90, the Health and Care Professions Council heard. The petty cash sometimes held up to £12,000 and could easily be accessed by the social workers.

UPADHYAY:ANAESTHETIST FAILED TO SPOT 'BLUE' PATIENT WAS ILL

NORTHWICH, CHESHIRE An anaesthetist who failed to spot a patient was seriously ill even after she had turned blue has been struck off. Dr Vatsa Upadhyay was criticised for 'sequential errors' in failing to recognise the deterioration of the woman condition following a routine knee operation in October 2011. The surgery at Victoria Infirmary, in Northwich, Cheshire went ahead without a hitch, but the doctor failed to provide 'good clinical care' during her transfer to the recovery area, a tribunal ruled. Luckily, alert colleagues recognised her 'very serious condition' and the woman went on to make a full recovery.

REVELL-READE:BUSINESSMEN RAN INVESTMENT SCAM FROM MADRID

CROYDON, SOUTH LONDON; DURSLEY, GLOUCESTERSHIRE; LEEDS, YORKS Three businessmen ran a £60million ($100m) scam in Spain which duped hundreds of British investors into buying worthless shares, a court heard today (weds). Jeffrey Revell-Reade, 49, allegedly organised the bogus Madrid-based operation in which punters in the UK were tricked into selling worthless shares over the telephone. Anthony May, 58, helped run the scam and controlled its proceeds while solicitor John Manning, 65, was recruited to act for the fraudsters and provide a 'veneer of respectability', it is said. Prosecutor Stuart Trimmer QC told Southwark Crown Court that a team of salesmen would use hard selling techniques to trick British investors into parting with their cash.

GRANT-MURAY: MOTHER SOBS AS HER SON IS CONVICTED OF SENSELESS SHOP MURDER

SOUTHALL/HANWELL Three thugs who stabbed a young businessman to death after a petty row in the street are facing life sentences today (weds). Taqui Khezihi, 21, was standing outside a Costcutter shop with his older brother Bourhane Khezihi, 24, when he was confronted by 20 year-old Janhelle Grant-Murray. During the heated argument with Mr Khezihi, Grant-Murray called one of his pals and told him to 'bring the knives'. Seconds later Grant-Murray and two other men launched the fatal attack which lasted less than 50 seconds. Both Khezihi brothers were stabbed in the back before one of the group shouted: 'I've shanked him, let's go.'

KANOJIA: DOCTOR KISSED THE LUCKY TATTOO

BURY ST EDMONDS An Indian cardiologist kissed a colleague's tattoo for 'good luck' after becoming entranced by her body art, a tribunal heard today (Wed). Dr Ajay Kumar Kanojia is said to have cornered the woman in his office, lifted her top up, massaged her arm and kissed her cheek. The doctor denies the charges, but admits he did lightly kiss a tattoo on her upper arm with her permission in an 'over-enthusiastic appreciation' of the artwork. He told a fitness to practise hearing in Manchester the incident at Barnsley Hospital, in South Yorks was a 'serious error of judgement'. Dr Kanojia also denies kissing a 24-year-old woman's neck after a 'cheap grope' during a consultation at the West Suffolk Hospital, in Bury St Edmunds.

COSSON:FINANCE CHIEF ACCUSED OF DEFRAUDING TRUST OUT OF £2M

HASTINGS, EAST SUSSEX A finance chief accused of defrauding an NHS primary care trust out of more than £2 million appeared in court today (weds). Trevor Cosson, 37, faces 22 fraud charges relating to alleged fraudulent activity during his time as Hastings and Rother Primary Care Trust head of financial accounting. He allegedly authorised £1.4 million worth of payments to be made to his bank account between July 2008 and August 2012. Cosson also transferred a further £800,000 into his own bank account via email after stating the money was to be paid to St Michael's Hospice from the NHS Shared Business Services.

MANDELSON LINED UP TO 'COACH' BROOKS THROUGH GRILLING

CHIPPING NORTON, OXFORDSHIRE Lord Peter Mandelson was lined up to 'coach' Rebekah Brooks through a Parliamentary grilling at the height of the phone hacking scandal, the court heard. The Labour grandee and close aide to Tony Blair was approached to give the News International chief executive private tutoring in July 2011. She arranged for the preparation session to take place at a friend's home in Oxfordshire, the weekend before she was due to appear before the Culture, Media and Sport select committee. However, the secret training session was abandoned when Brooks was forced to resign and was arrested by police for phone hacking.

PRIORY NURSE USED YARD BROOM TO SWAT FAG FROM PATIENT'S MOUTH

NEWBURY, BERKS A Priory nurse who used a yard broom to swat a lit cigarette out of a patient's mouth could be struck off today (weds). Nkosazana Sifumba scolded the man for smoking before shouting at him: 'Put it out or I will put it out for you'. She then threatened to knock the cigarette out of the patient's mouth by bringing the brush end of the broom close to his face, the Nursing and Midwifery Council heard. A healthcare assistant heard Sifumba ask another member of staff to fetch a broom so she knock out the smoke at Thornford Park Hospital, part of the Priory Group, in Newbury, Berks.
