CROOKS JAILED FOR FLEECING PENSIONERS TO FUND LAVISH LIFESTYLES

ORPINGTON, KESTON, KENT; TOWCESTER, NORTHANTS; CULLOMPTON, DEVON; DUMBARTON Two ruthless conmen who cheated pensioners out of £10million to fund their lavish lifestyles were jailed for four years and eight months each today (tues). Matthew Noad, 30, and Clive Griston, 52, took luxury holidays in the Caribbean and dined in swanky restaurants with life savings they had scammed from elderly investors. They cold-called scores of vulnerable victims promising amazing returns if they bought land in Scotland, Devon and Northamptonshire. Investors were told it would rocket in value once it was developed but none of the land was eligible to be built on and their money has never been recovered.

KHAN:15 YEARS FOR HAMMER THUG WHO TRIED TO MURDER SCHOOLBOY

BECKTON, EAST LONDON A balaclava-clad teenager who tried to kill a schoolboy with a hammer because he went out with his sister has been jailed for 15 years. The 15-year-old victim suffered three skull fractures after being smashed over the head seven times by Adeel Khan, 18. He has since had to re-learn how to walk, talk and eat after falling in to a coma following the attack. The teenage victim had met a friend and was on his way home in Evelyn Denington Road, Beckton, east London, when he looked up and saw two assailants in balaclavas.

COULSON DENIES LISTENING TO HACKED SIENA MILLER VOICEMAIL

CHARING, KENT; CHIPPING NORTON, OXFORDSHIRE Former News of the World editor Andy Coulson denied one of his reporters played him a hacked voicemail exposing the affair between actors Sienna Miller and Daniel Craig. The 46-year-old dismissed as false a claim that he had stood over journalist Dan Evans as he played the intercepted message in the middle of the newsroom. Coulson produced diaries from 2005 showing he was actually at the Labour Party conference in Brighton on the day he is accused of listening to the message. Evans told the Old Bailey in January that Coulson had been 'animated' when listening to the revealing message, in which Ms Miller told the Bond star: 'Hi, it's me, can't speak at the Groucho with Jude, I love you.'

KHAN:MAN DENIES MURDER OF YOUNG WIFE

FOREST GATE, EAST LONDON A man accused of stabbing his young wife to death denied murder today (tues). Jamshaid Khan, 29, allegedly knifed 27-year-old Milena Khan at their home in Forest Gate, east London. Emergency services were called to Nigel Road on January 28 at around 3pm. Mrs Khan, a Bulgarian national, was taken to hospital but died at 8.22pm the same day.

COSFORD:PRISON NURSE HAD SEX WITH SERIAL RAPIST IN HIS CELL

WAKEFIELD, WEST YORKS A prison nurse who had sex with a serial rapist in his cell while her colleagues kept watch is facing the end of her career today (tues). Married Karen Cosford, 48, fell for Brian McBride in the health care unit of high security Wakefield Prison, west Yorks. Cosford, whose husband also worked in the prison service, sent McBride texts telling him 'you are my world' and 'can't wait for you to get out'. She was jailed for three years after a cell search revealed McBride's contraband mobile phone and a subsequent investigation exposed their relationship, the Nursing and Midwifery Council heard.

TULISA IN COURT ACCUSED OF HELPING FIX COCAINE DEAL

NEW SOUTHGATE, ENFIELD, NORTH LONDON Former X Factor judge Tulisa Contostavlos appeared in court today (Tues) over claims she helped to fix an £860 cocaine deal. The former N-Dubz star, 25, was allegedly caught referring to the Class A drug as 'white sweets' after being the subject of a tabloid newspaper sting. Contostavlos is accused of arranging a transaction between undercover reporter Mazher Mahmood and her friend, Mike GLC - real name for Michael Coombs. The alleged deal is said to have been arranged at London's Dorchester Hotel on May 10 last year.

SUTHERLAND:CARER ACCEPTED NEW VW AND PEARL NECKLACES FROM OAP

ESHER, SURREY A live-in carer who accepted £20,000, a brand new Volkswagen, pearl necklaces and a laptop from an elderly patient has been let off with a two-year caution order. Elizabeth Sutherland was found to have breached professional guidelines when she accepted the lavish gifts from the wealthy pensioner. Sutherland had insisted she could not accept the items, but the patient, referred to only as Mr E, was described as an extremely insistent man who was used to getting his own way. She began working for Mr E in December 2010 after she was introduced to him by Patricia White's Personal Home Care, an agency based in Esher, Surrey.

CRANE:MUM WHO HELPED SON CARRY OUT PAWNBROKERS SPARED JAIL

LEE, CATFORD, SOUTHEAST LONDON A mother who helped her son carry out a smash and grab raid on a pawnbrokers vowed never to speak to him again after being spared jail today (TUES). Shelley Crane, 48, acted as a lookout while Bradley Crane, 27, grabbed almost £8,000 of jewellery from the shop in Lee, southeast London. She was recorded on CCTV walking past the store and phoning her son to say: 'Can't see no-one in there' just moments before the attack. Bradley Crane has already been jailed for two years and three months after admitting burglary but his mother continues to insist on her innocence despite being convicted by an Old Bailey jury.

DAVIES-JONES:SHERRY GUZZLING NURSE SUSPENDED

WESTON-SUPER-MARE, SOMERSET A nurse who necked a pensioner's sherry during a shift leaving her wobbling on her bicycle has been barred from working for a year. Mandy Davies-Jones raided the resident's booze while on duty at the Ellenborough Nursing and Residential Care Home in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset. Concerned colleagues noticed the bottles were moved from their usual position and marked the labels to monitor the falling drink level. On one occasion Davies-Jones seen wobbling around on her bike before giving up and pushing it off into the distance after being sent home, the hearing was told.

CHIRE: PHOTOGRAPHER SNAPPED UP BOGUS EXPENSES

HOXTON A fashion photographer took £3,500 worth of free taxi trips across London and fraudulently claimed them on business expenses, a court heard today. (THU) Diana Chire, 27, allegedly invoiced property firm Segro PLC for 65 rides across the capital while she was their administrator. Segro, a property investment and development company, had recruited the part-time model on a temporary basis between December 12 and January 17 this year. Wearing heavy makeup and a dark grey suit in the dock at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, Chire spoke only to confirm her name and plead guilty to a charge of fraud by abuse of position.

HENDON: SO BORED HE ALMOST CAUSED A PILE-UP

ISLINGTON A yob who blinded drivers by shining a torch into their faces was today (THU) told by a judge that he will be behind bars on his 25th birthday so that he is ‘taught a lesson’. Andre Hendon, 24, almost caused three cars to crash in Manchester Square, central London because he was ‘bored’. Appearing via videolink from Pentonville Prison, Hendon spoke only to confirm his name and address and admit three counts of vehicle interference. Prosecutor Birgitte Hagem told Westminster Magistrates’ Court that Hendon has a series of convictions relating to car crime. District Judge Elizabeth Roscoe said that she will sentence Hendon on May 9 and that he may face a prison sentence for the offences.
