STEPHENSON:WORLD FAMOUS CONDUCTOR ESCAPES DRIVING BAN

KENSINGTON, WEST LONDON A world-famous conductor caught behind the wheel while over the drink drive limit has escaped a ban because he needs his car to look after his elderly mother. Mark Stephenson, 56, had been out drinking with friends in Smith Square, central London when police approached his VW Golf at 3.30am. He told officers who approached the car and noticed the alcohol on his breath 'It's alright, we're just going.' 'The headlights of the vehicle were on, Mr Stephenson had a passenger in this car - both were wearing seat belts,' said Lorna Vincent, prosecuting.

PLESCA:13 YEARS FOR ASYLUM SEEKER WHO TRIED TO RAPE WIDOW

CUSTOM HOUSE, WANSTEAD, EAST LONDON; BEFORD An asylum seeker who tried to rape a widow and grabbed her late husband's police medals months after arriving in the UK sobbed as he was jailed for 13 years today (weds). Gheorthita Plesca, 44, ransacked the homes of the elderly, stealing everything from jewellery to ham from the fridge. Doreen Bradley was 68 when Plesca slipped into her east London home and tied her up before putting her through 'every householder's worst nightmare' in 2001. She was throttled, bound and sexually assaulted by the prolific burglar, who also snatched her late husband Bill's medals for long police service.

MJOLA: CRAZED SCARFMAN TRIES TO KILL BUS PASSENGER FOR ASKING THE WAY TO TESCO

CENTRAL LONDON A bus passenger who throttled a commuter with a scarf because the victim asked if they were near Tesco was jailed for eight years today (weds). Eric Mjola, 33, tried to murder Reynolds Quadjovie as the security guard travelled to work on his first day in a new job. Mr Quadjovie passed out in front of horrified passengers on a single decker C1 bus in Earls Court, west London. Homeless Mjola was convicted of attempted murder after a trial at Isleworth Crown Court. Judge Richard McGregor-Johnson told him: 'This was plainly for Mr Quadjovie an extremely frightening experience and that frightening experience quite plainly, has not left him.

CUFFLEY, HERTS; WEST DRAYTON, UXBRIDGE, MIDDSX; TOTTENHAM, NORTH LONDON; BECKTON, EAST LONDON A student accused of involvement in a plot to blackmail two partygoers suspected of stealing jewellery from England striker Jermain Defoe insisted he does not even know the footballer. Sarah Evans and Abby Williams were suspected of grabbing valuable items following a party at the footballer's £3m mansion home in Cuffley, Herts. The two women were then subjected to a campaign of blackmail and threatening messages demanding the items back. In one phone call, Miss Evans was told by an unknown male that he would cut off 'every one of her fingers' off so she could not steal again.

KRAUSE TRANNSEXUAL LOSES LAWNMOWER LIBEL

CHESHIRE A transsexual who tried to sue the MailOnline for saying she was excused community service because a lawnmower was 'too heavy' lost her libel claim today (weds). Jan Krause, legally now a woman, was ordered to perform 250 hours of unpaid work after breaching a restraining order against her neighbours in Walnut Lane, Hartford, Northwich, Cheshire. Ms Krause, 49, stared at them, shone a torch at their car and complained to a gas man about the feud, Chester Magistrates Court had heard.

ALOM: WANNABE DOC CUT DOWN AND KILLED

POPLAR An aspiring doctor was stabbed to death trying to protect his best friend from a masked gang, a court heard today (Weds). Ajmol Alom, 16, collapsed yards from his home after a group of gangsters plunged kitchen knives and a machete-like blade into his leg in an unprovoked attack. The teenager had a bright future and was hoping to study medicine at Oxbridge but was killed just days before receiving eight A's and three B's in his GCSE results last August. His mother rushed from the family home and watched helplessly as her son bled to death on Spey Street, Poplar, Snaresbrook Crown Court heard.

GENDY: SURGEON FIGHTS HORROR HOSPITAL CRITICISM

STAFFORD A consultant breast surgeon at the scandal-hit Stafford Hospital rejected a series of complaints about his professional performance today (Wed). Raafat Gendy is the only doctor who worked at Mid Staffs during the scandal to face a fitness to practise probe at the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service in Manchester. Up to 1200 patients are thought to have died unnecessarily at the hospital between 2004 and 2008 because of the poor standards of care. The GMC allege that his 'fitness to practise is impaired' because of deficient professional performance.

CHORLTON: NURSE SLASHED COLLEAGUE'S TYRES BECAUSE HE DIDN'T LIKE HIS GUITAR STRUMMING

DORSET A nurse who slashed a colleague's tyres for ignoring his guitar playing at a barbeque is facing the end of his career today (Weds). Gordon Chorlton also repeatedly bit his girlfriend and threatened to kill her by taking her for 'a walk along the cliffs.' He aimed a gas-loaded air pistol at his lover's head and gnawed at her breasts and neck. The nurse also sliced her arm with a Stanley knife before slashing himself and mixing their blood in a bizarre ritual, the Nursing and Midwifery Council heard.

BLAIR ADVISED BROOKS TO ORGANISE 'HUTTON STYLE' HACKING INQUIRY

CHELMSFORD, ESSEX; BUCKINGHAM, BUCKS; CHIPPING NORTON, OXFORDSHIRE Former Prime Minister Tony Blair secretly advised Rebekah Brooks how to organise a 'Hutton style' inquiry at the height of the phone hacking scandal, the Old Bailey heard today (weds). In an hour-long phone call to the embattled News International chief executive, Mr Blair suggested an independent inquiry that would investigate her and clear chairman James Murdoch of wrongdoing. According to a bombshell email written by Brooks herself, Mr Blair likened the suggested probe to the Hutton Inquiry which he ordered in 2003 into the death of Dr David Kelly. That inquiry, chaired by Lord Hutton, cleared the Labour government of wrongdoing, but was widely criticised as a whitewash that pinned most of the blame on the BBC.

MIAH:ALLEGED KILLER BOASTED HE HAD A GUN DURING WINDSOR BRAWL

WINDSOR, BERKS; LEIGHTON BUZZARD, BEDS; HANWELL, WEST LONDON One of the four men accused of murdering a digital producer boasted he had a gun during the brawl in Windsor, a court heard. Lahin Miah, 26, is said to have started the fight that ended in 24 year-old Sean Noctor being stabbed to death in a park. Miah, giving evidence at the Old Bailey, told jurors that he was not involved in the attack on Mr Noctor and did not see anyone use a knife. He admitted in the early stages of the confrontation he bragged about having a 'strap' - a slang word for gun - to make the other group back off.

DELPORT:SHAMED GP MOLESTED PATIENTS AS YOUNG AS 18 MONTHS

SWANLEY, DARTFORD, KENT A shamed GP who sexually assaulted and took indecent photographs of female patients as young as 18 months faces being struck off today (weds). Dr Barend Delport, 56, abused his position as a trusted family doctor to take more than 800 indecent pictures for his own sexual gratification. He tricked victims at his Kent surgery into allowing him to photograph them or their children by telling them a whole host of lies. The paedophile medic was jailed for a total of six years last September after pleading guilty to 26 offences at Maidstone Crown Court.
