NIGHTINGALE: SOLDIER LOSES GLOCK HANDGUN BATTLE

CREWE A former SAS trooper caught with a handgun and 300 rounds of ammunition has lost his latest court battle. Danny Nightingale, 39, admitted to possessing the weapon in May 2012 and was sentenced to two years in jail amid a public outcry. He was again convicted at a retrial in July of last year but his prison term was suspended, the High Court was told. The soldier suffered brain damage after collapsing in the Amazon in 2009, and claimed to have 'loads of memory loss' as to how he acquired the 9mm Glock pistol.

QUASHIE: GANG MEMBERS CONVICTED OF 2010 MURDER

NEW CROSS Three gang members who shot a rival in the back in a row sparked by a motorbike being driven too close to a young mother and child are facing life behind bars today (TUES). Jamel Green, 20, Curtis Quashie, 22, and Bosun Sode, 21, targeted Nathan Allen, 21, after hearing of the trivial incident. Mr Allen, who may not even have been riding the bike in question, was blasted in the back in New Cross, southeast London, on 3 May 2010. As he lay dying he managed to call an ambulance and gasped: 'Been shot - in my lung - I can't breathe. Quick - on Ludwick Mews - I'm in a back garden. Ludwick Mews, New Cross.'

CHOUDHURY: WOULD-BE MARTYR FACES JAIL

PORTSMOUTH, HANTS A would-be martyr who travelled to Syria to join a terrorist training camp after his wife told him in a row to 'go die in the battlefield' is facing jail. Mashadur Choudhury, 31, suggested the group he was travelling with should be called the 'Britani brigade Bangladeshi bad boys'. Father of two Choudhury was in contact via Skype with Ifthekar Jaman who had told a broadcast journalist he was fighting jihad in Syria and is believed to have died. The former Portsmouth council worker claimed he went to Syria to 'help' and do some charity work but he was held at gunpoint and made to do laundry.

GILBERT: LOVE DRUGS SOLD FROM FISHING TACKLE BUSINESS

BRIGHTON, PEACEHAVEN, EAST SUSSEX; GRIMSBY, ULCEBY, HUMBERSIDE A counterfeit drugs ring raked in more than £11m selling fake Viagra under the cover of a mail-order fishing-tackle business, a court heard. The gang, headed by 41 year-old Neil Gilbert, set up a lucrative online business offering cheap erectile dysfunction pills to customers across the world. They used a series of 'front' companies claiming to sell jewellery, fishing tackle and cosmetics to accept the electronic payments and laundered the proceeds through more than 100 bank accounts both in the UK and offshore. In one year alone the business was turning over £60,000 a week, it is claimed.

BROOKS HAS BEEN VICTIM OF 'CRUELTY AND VITRIOL'

CHIPPING NORTON, OXFORDSHIRE; CHARING, KENT Former News International chief executive Rebekah Brooks has been the victim of 'cruelty and vitriol' during a three-year campaign to convict her of phone hacking, the Old Bailey heard. Jonathan Laidlaw QC, defending the 45-year-old former editor, said the prosecution had failed to find a 'smoking gun' against Brooks and attacked them from mishandling the evidence. In his closing speech to the jury, the barrister launched a broadside on the publicity against Brooks that put her at a disadvantage before the trial even began. Mr Laidlaw asked the jurors to imagine they were a relative or loved one of the defendants in this trial, looking on from the public gallery.

QUILTY:CARE HOME NURSE PUT TIGHTS OVER DEAD RESIDENT'S HEAD

WALLASEY, MERSEYSIDE A care home nurse put a pair of tights over a resident's head after they died, a tribunal heard. Florenda Quilty allegedly placed the item of hosiery around the woman's head shortly after she passed away at St George's Care Home, Wallasey, Merseyside. Quilty then argued with a doctor who had been called to certify the patient's death and snatched his medical notes, it was said. When the doctor refused to leave Quilty called police to the home, the Nursing and Midwifery Council heard.

CROOKED BUILDER TRIED TO FLEECE 89-YEAR-OLD OF 15K

READING A rogue trader who tried to con an 89-year-old pensioner out of £15,000 to repair damage to her house that did not exist has been jailed for 18 months. Adam Rafferty, 26, turned up at Elizabeth Arnold's house to do a minor job for his boss “John” who had called ahead and said they would do the work on her windows for free if they could have an advertising board outside her home. When Rafferty arrived three weeks after the initial call he began the re-patching work under the windows of her home on Woodside Park Road. He then told Ms Arnold she had damp in her walls and it would cost some £15,000 to repair. Rafferty who handed her an invoice and sent her off to the bank to get the money, Snaresbrook Crown Court heard.

KHAN: DOCTOR INVITED YOUNG MUM TO TOUCH HIS PENIS

NORTHAMPTON A GP who asked a young single mum to touch his penis after turning up at her home with a bottle of Malibu faces being struck off. Dr Mazhar Khan, 37, became excited as he browsed the 21-year-old's Facebook pictures while sitting next to her on the couch, the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service heard. He tried to kiss her, pressed his groin against her body, then unzipped his trousers and asked her to touch his penis. The pair had met just weeks earlier when she brought her nine-month-old daughter to see the locum GP at the Danes Camp Medical Centre, in Northampton, in March 2012.

BANGURA: ANXIOUS WAIT FOR INCONTINENCE PADS NURSE

HAMPSTEAD A nurse accused of allowing elderly patients to be restrained with incontinence pads and medical tape is facing an anxious wait over the future of her career. Mariatu Bangura did not remove the restraints after they were used to restrict the movements of two patients at the Royal Free Hospital, Hampstead. She is also accused of refusing to countersign records of one of the patients saying that she had been restrained until the exact method used was deleted. A Nursing and Midwifery Council panel will now consider the facts alleged against Bangura on June 23 after running out of time.

PLESZKAN: NURSE GAVE HIS NUMBER TO TEENAGE PATIENTS

NOTTINGHAM A nurse gave out his personal number to teenager girls on a psychiatric unit and sent one a text which read: 'Don't let the f*****s get to you.' Mark Pleszkan befriended patients on the Thorneywood Adolescent Unit, Nottingham, where one was found with his mobile number scrawled on her arm. Pleszkan continued texting 'Patient A' after he left his job, telling her to 'be cool' and calling her a 'star', the Nursing and Midwifery Council heard. One message to the young woman said 'Oh yes, you will be out soon like a rat out of a drainpipe (and no I don't mean you are a rat) (smiley face)', the panel was told.

STEVENS: PESNIONER MURDERED BY TWISTED SON-IN LAW

NEASDEN A vulnerable pensioner was murdered by her 'deviant' son-in-law in a horrific sex assault, a court heard. Amoe Stevens, 64, bled to death after suffering severe internal injuries at the hands of 32 year-old Mohamnud Yusuf, it is claimed. Yusuf allegedly tried to cover up the attack by telling the victim's carer that the bloodstains were really curry sauce. When police arrived two hours later he appeared unconcerned and denied knowing how she suffered the fatal wounds, jurors were told.
