ISLINGTON, NORTH LONDON A drugs counsellor accused of smuggling wraps of cannabis into jail in a tin of rice pudding is facing jail after he was found guilty of misconduct. Daryl Johnson, 26, abused his role as a CARAT (Counselling, Assessment, Referral Advice, Through care) worker while based at HMP Pentonville. Prosecutors allege he passed drugs to an inmate despite his role being to help prisoners cope with their drug addictions while in jail.

JOHNSON: DRUGS COUNCILLOR SMUGGLED POT IN RICE PUDDING

ISLINGTON A drugs counsellor tried to smuggle wraps of cannabis into jail in a tin of rice pudding, a court heard. Daryl Johnson, 26, allegedly abused his role as a CARAT (Counselling, Assessment, Referral Advice, Through care) worker to pass the drugs to an inmate at HMP Pentonville. As a CARAT worker his job was to help prisoners cope with their drug addictions while in jail. Johnson was caught after he acted suspiciously moments before a search was carried out on the staff at the prison on May 11 last year.

SHIFNAL, SHROPSHIRE; CITY OF LONDON A City conman who spent investors' savings on a 'lavish' lifestyle and fled to Australia was finally snared after he was arrested for drink driving. Robert Taylor-Barefoot, 34, skipped bail and fled his home days before he was due to stand trial over the £250,000 scam last year. The high spending broker's travel documents had not been seized, nor was he made subject of a financial surety, as part of his bail conditions.

FRAY: PRISON CHEF DENIES SMUGGLING DRUGS AND PHONES

BELMARSH, SOUTH NORWOOD, SOUTHEAST LONDON; MUSWELL HILL, NORTH LONDON A prison chef has denied smuggling drugs, mobile phones, and phone chargers into a young offenders' institution. Mick Fray, 45, allegedly plotted with inmate Glen Lawrence, 22, to bring the items into HMP Isis, based within maximum security Belmarsh jail, over a five month period. Prosecutors claim the pair conspired with Lawrence's sister Nikki Nash, 29, and mother Carolyn Dylan, 46.

KHAN ACCUSED REFUGEE RAPIST IN COURT

MAIDA VALE An Afghan asylum seeker accused of clamping his hands over a woman's mouth as he tried to rape her appeared in court today (tues). Mohammadullah Khan, 19, allegedly tried to force himself on the 26-year-old woman after groping her bottom in the street on July 2 last year. The teenager is accused of covering her mouth in a bid to stop her screaming during the alleged night-time attack in Shirland Road, Maida Vale, west London.

LAWSON: PRISON GUARD ON DRUGS CHARGES

WEST MOLESLEY, SURREY; STREATHAM, BATTERSEA, WANDSWORTH, SOUTHWEST LONDON A prison officer today (Thurs) denied entering a 'corrupt relationship' with a serving inmate and his mother. John Lawson, 43, is charged with misconduct in a public office following contact with Jordan Burree, 25, and Sharon Burree, 49, while working at HMP Wandsworth. All three appeared in the dock at Southwark Crown Court today (THUR) for a plea and case management hearing.

As a CARAT worker his job was to help prisoners cope with their drug addictions while in jail. Johnson was caught out after acting suspiciously moments before a search was carried out on the staff at the prison, on May 11 last year.

PATEL: PAIR FACE TRIAL FOR MONEY LAUNDERING

HOUNSLOW, WEST LONDON; LIMEHOUSE, EAST LONDON An alleged money launderer accused of channelling £9.5m through his partner’s bureau-de-change has appeared in court. Manish Patel, 26, is said to have laundered millions through lover Binita Karnavat’s BK Forex Money Exchange, in Shaftesbury Avenue, central London, The couple are said to have flushed the proceeds of crime through the business between March 2010 and May 2011.

JAVED: WEB DESIGNER ON TERROR DOCS CHARGE

BIRMINGHAM, WEST MIDLANDS A web site designer appeared in court today (Weds) accused of downloading documents for use in terrorism. Umran Javed, 32, was arrested in March of this year and charged with four charges under the Terrorism Act, 2000. Javed, previously of Washwood Heath Rd, Birmingham, appeared at Southwark Crown Court via videolink from HMP Wormwood Scrubs, wearing a grey sweatshirt, with a full beard. He spoke only to confirm his name at the brief hearing to discuss the management of the case.

RODDIS: FINANCE WORKER STUDIED BOMB MAKING VIDEOES

ROTHERHAM A former finance worker appeared in court today (Thurs) charged with preparing an act of terrorism by viewing videos about bomb making. Nicholas Roddis, 27, was caught viewing the material on YouTube in libraries across Yorkshire, it is claimed. Roddis, from Rotherham, faces a single charge under section 5 of the Terrorism Act.

ADOBOLI: 'ROGUE TRADER' RELEASED ON BAIL OVER £1.5BN LOSSES

WHITECHAPEL, EAST LONDON An alleged rogue trader said to have gambled away £1.5bn on the stock markets has won his bail application today (FRI) after friends and family put together a six figure bail package. Kweku Adoboli, 32, is said to have committed Britain’s biggest ever banking fraud while working at Swiss Banking Giant UBS. He is set to stand trial on September 3 after pleading not guilty to charges of fraud and false accounting. The trader has been remanded in custody ever since his arrest in September 2012 but today won a bail application following a private hearing at Southwark Crown Court.

LOWE: JAILER SENT SEXY TEXTS TO TOYBOY INMATE

PENTONVILLE, NORTH LONDON; CANNING TOWN, EAST LONDON A woman prison guard who sent sexually-charged texts to her toyboy lover as he served a lengthy jail sentence was herself locked up for nine months today (weds). Janie Lowe, 47, had a steamy three month relationship with 27-year-old prisoner Daniel Coates, Southwark Crown Court heard. The mother of one sent a string of raunchy text messages to the young drug dealer while she worked at HMP Pentonville, in north London.
