CLAPTON, EAST LONDON A drug addict accused of battering a heavily pregnant woman with a chair leg after branding her a 'slag' walked free from court today (Mon) after claiming he acted in self-defence. Philip Spence, 31, then stabbed and poured boiling water over Tracey Hughes, 28, in an unprovoked attack as she cowered in a bath.

SPENCE: THUG 'TRIED TO KILL' PREGNANT WOMAN

CLAPTON, EAST LONDON A thug battered a heavily pregnant woman with a chair leg, stabbed her and poured boiling water over her after branding her a 'slag', a court heard today (TUES). Philip Spence, 31, tried to kill 28 year-old Tracey Hughes in a frenzied and unprovoked attack as she cowered helplessly in the bath, it is claimed. The victim suffered a collapsed lung, stab wounds to her head and back, a broken wrist, a broken finger and bruising all over her body.

BEXLEYHEATH, GREENWICH, SOUTHEAST LONDON; FOREST ROW, EAST GRINSTEAD, SUSSEX An 'exceptionally dangerous' woman who stabbed a grandmother to death in the street six years after killing her own mother was jailed for at least 37 years today (MON) Nicola Edgington, 32, almost decapitated 59 year-old Sally Hodkin with a steak knife hours after warning police and doctors she might kill again. When she felt her pleas to be locked up were being ignored she deliberately set out to kill an innocent member of the public at random.

HUTCHINSON-FOSTER: GUN DEALER WHO HELPED SPARK RIOTS JAILED FOR 11 YEARS

TOTTENHAM, NORTH LONDON The gun and drug dealer who handed Mark Duggan a pistol 12 minutes before he was shot dead by police was jailed for 11 years today (Tues). Duggan, 29, took a taxi to collect the gun stashed in a shoebox from his friend Kevin Hutchinson-Foster, 30. Less than a quarter of an hour later Duggan was gunned down by police marksmen after allegedly appearing to draw the weapon on cops.

FORRESTER:THUG WHO BEAT NEIGHBOUR IN NOISE RAGE JAILED FOR FIVE YEARS

STOKE NEWINGTON, NORTH LONDON A thug who subjected his next-door neighbours to a horrific hammer attack when they refused to keep the noise down was jailed for five years today (Weds). Stuart Forrester, 48, smashed into Marian Cellmer's flat before grabbing him by the throat and beating him with the weapon. Mr Cellmer was in bed with his wife Danuta and thought he was dreaming - but woke to find Forrester raining down blows.

TONBUL: FIVE MEN IN COURT OVER TUBE STATION SHOOTING

TURNPIKE LANE; WOOD GREEN; TOTTENHAM; EDMONTON Five men accused of plotting a fatal shooting outside a London tube station appeared at the Old Bailey today (Tues). The victim Ali Armagan, 32, was gunned down as he sat in a car in Turnpike Lane, north London, on February 1 this year.

TONBUL: THREE ACCUSED OF MURDER PLOT

TOTTENHAM; TURNPIKE LANE Three men accused of helping to plot a fatal shooting outside a Tube station appeared at the Old Bailey today (Tues). The trio were allegedly involved in planning the murder of Ali Armagan, 32, who was gunned down as he sat in a car in Turnpike Lane, north London. Mr Armagan was hit by a bullet in the neck as he cowered in the Audi's footwell and bled to death at the scene in Langham Parade last February 1.

GREGORY: 'MY GIRLFRIEND'S BROTHER BIT MY EAR OFF'

ROMFORD A thug bit his sister’s boyfriend’s ear off during an unprovoked attack, a court heard. John Gregory, 29, ‘ripped off’ the top part of Shahzad Qureshi’s left ear before spitting it out on the ground, jurors were told. Mr Qureshi endured ‘immense pain’ and has been left permanently disfigured with no option other than plastic surgery to repair the damage, Snaresbrook Crown Court heard.

HEALEY: TEENS CAGED OVER DECAPITATION ATTEMPT

BOREHAMWOOD, HEMEL HEMPSTEAD, HERTFORDSHIRE; LOUGHTON, THEYDON BOIS, ESSEX; Two 'merciless' thugs who tried to execute a disabled teenager by chopping his head off with an axe were jailed for a total of more than 36 years today (Thurs). Jamie Healey, 23, pinned 17-year-old Luke Demetriou to his bed while Ronald Dwyer, 22, rained down eight blows on his head. The carefully planned attack, on the first day of the 2010 World Cup, came at the culmination of a long-standing feud between Dwyer's father Terry and Mr Demetriou's family. The victim, who was born without his right hand and right food, cowered under the bed then tried to protect himself by raising his hand, Snaresbrook Crown Court.

STREATHAM, CAMBERWELL, SOUTHEAST LONDON Three members of a notorious street gang who left a five-year-old girl paralysed for life in a bungled assassination attempt were jailed for a total of at least 45 years today (Thurs). Nathaniel Grant, 21, Kazeem Kolawole, 19, and Anthony McCalla, 20, blasted Thusha Kamaleswaran in the chest as she played in the aisles of her uncle's corner shop. The youngster, who dreamed of becoming a professional dancer, was caught in the crossfire of a 'tit-for-tat' gang feud and twice went into cardiac arrest as paramedics frantically battled to save her.

Nathaniel Grant, 21, Kazeem Kolawole, 19, and Anthony McCalla, 20, blasted Thusha Kamaleswaran in the chest as she danced in the aisles of her uncle's corner shop. The youngster was caught in the crossfire of a 'tit-for-tat' gang feud and twice went into cardiac arrest as paramedics frantically battled to save her. The bicycling attackers had chased a rival gang member into the store and circled in the street outside before Grant fired two shots from a silver semi-automatic pistol through the front door.

JUDE:FIVE YEARS FOR SMASH AND GRAB RAIDER FOILED BY CHRISTMAS SHOPPERS

CITY OF LONDON; ISLINGTON A member of a smash and grab gang foiled by 20 cheering Christmas shoppers was jailed for five years. Nicky Jude, 19, rode one of two stolen bikes as the gang brazenly motored through the One New Change shopping centre on Cheapside. Staff and customers cowered in a back room as the raiders smashed open display cases with sledge hammers before escaping with £191,000 of designer watches, the Old Bailey heard. A crowd of bystanders pinned two of the gang to the ground as they tried to make their escape. But Jude and another robber sped off on their motorcycle after causing £15,000 of damage to the store.
