(FRI) Andrew Liddard, 21, and his brother Christopher, 26, face charges of manslaughter and affray over the death of Michael Reed, 67, earlier this year.

LINNEN: JUDGE TAKES PITY ON DRUG-ADDLED PUB BURGLAR CHELMSFORD, BRENTWOOD, ESSEX A prolific burglar who raided a string of pubs to fund a £200-a-day drug habit escaped jail today as a judge admitted '95 per cent' of her colleagues would have locked him up. Westley Linnen, 30, broke in to bars across Hertfordshire and Essex to snatch takings from the tills in a four-month crimewave.

RICHARDSON: GANGLAND HIT MURDER SUSPECT LASHES OUT AT PROSECUTOR ORPINGTON, KENT; HODDESDON, CHESHUNT, HERTS; GLASGOW A businessman accused of arranging the execution of an aging villain over an unpaid debt denied murder and told the prosecutor: 'You're absolutely off your trolley'. Harry 'Big H' Richardson, 59, is said to have paid two hitmen to shoot 63-year-old George Francis outside his courier firm in southeast London.

CONAGHAN:ACCUSED HITMAN 'TOO FAT' TO SCALE FENCE AND WAIT FOR VICTIM SOUTHWARK, SE LONDON; BECKENHAM, PETTS WOOD, KENT; CHESHUNT, HERTS; GLASGOW, SCOTLAND. An alleged hitman was too fat to scale a fence and lay in wait for his target, a court heard. Terence Conaghan, 54, is said to have clambered over gates, then climbed a drainpipe to move a CCTV camera in a southeast London haulage yard in readiness for a shooting.

A top QC took to the witness box in an Old Bailey murder trial today (Tues) to deny demanding £10,000 from a suspect. The barrister, who has defended some of Britain's most notorious criminals, found himself on the other side of court when he appeared as a witness for accused hitman John O'Flynn.
