| Payroll officer Matthew Thomas told bosses at Newham Council he had severe back pain after a fall off a ladder and could not come in for seven months They were surprised when investigators filmed the former Commonweath Games athlete sprinting around Crystal Palace, apparently none the worse for wear. Thomas, who had claimed more than £13,000 in sick pay, said running was part of his recovery programme.
